the Revd Tony rindl

Vicar

Tony became Vicar of Watford back in 2013 after serving as Team Rector and Area Dean in Colne, Lancashire. Prior to ordination, he was a qualified mineral and mining surveyor working in quarry management and construction, a job that took him all across the UK. Before training for ordained ministry at St. John's College, Nottingham he was working for the Black Country Development Corporation, a role which reflects his continued interest in regeneration and building strong communities. He has a real passion for the care and support of refugees and is very active in the work going on with that community here in Watford. Away from St Mary’s, Tony likes to hike and enjoys football and cricket, and as a life-long Wolves fan, he is more than happy to share with you about their new-found resurgence! Tony married the Revd Cath Da Costa (the Children and Youth Worker at St Mary’s prior to her ordination) in the summer of 2023 - they now divide their spare time between his Vicarage in Watford and her Curate’s House in Harpenden!

Peter Dean

Churchwarden

Peter came to Watford for his first job after graduating from Uni and it was a visit and invitation by a couple from St. Mary’s which brought him here in the early 80’s. A working life in the electronics industry in the Watford area has had him involved with a whole manner of things from X-Ray machines to moving advertising displays to gas detectors for the international space station and airports! If he wasn’t busy enough with all he does for us here at St Mary’s he also runs the management company for the estate of flats he lives in.

Eileen Roby

Churchwarden

Eileen was elected as Churchwarden at the Annual Meeting in 2023. She was appointed Vice Chair at the first meeting of the PCC after the APCM; and was acting Chair during the Vicar’s absence in the summer of 2023.

She did not grow up going to church but met Christ when she was sixteen and has walked with him since. Her first church was a Baptist church and she only started going to an Anglican church when she married Andy in 1985, which was when she started attending St Mary’s. She has worshipped at St Mary’s off and on since then as they spent some 16 years overseas; Andy working for the government on development and Eileen raising a family and finding work where she could. They have three grown-up daughters and 2 grandchildren who keep them well occupied and remind them of the pleasures that life brings. She is a teacher by profession and retired at the end of the 2022/23 academic year. She also has a degree in HR which she is sure will come in useful as a Churchwarden.
