Here, unusually in advance of the first rehearsal for them, are the harmonies for the new choir pieces. There are three at this time: Taste and See (which is fairly straightforward), All You Works of God (which is cheery and fun-filled) and Sing With the Spirit (Gentle Rutter). If you want to have a listen through before tomorrow to give yourselves a head-start, do please go ahead! Note that the non-Soprano bits on Sing With the Spirit start after the first verse, when they come in.

Hopefully I’ve also sorted out the problem of being able to download these to your iPods etc., but, if not, do let me know.

We are sorry to announce that Mrs Ailene Moore the wife of the late Revd Dennis Moore who was vicar of St Mary’s from 1970 to 1984 died last week. The funeral will be held on Tuesday 1 June at 2.00pm at St Peters Church Cringleford Norwich.

The military funeral of Corporal Chris Harrison will take place at St Mary’s this coming Wednesday at midday. We pray for Chris’s wife Becky, his parents and family and all his colleagues in the continuing conflict in Afghanistan.

Naturally, the more you know and are comfortable notes-wise with before rehearsal, the better we’ll be doing!

Bonus marks will also be given for spotting which song and voice-part I performed an outrageous cut with my software to imply I’d managed the whole final note!

The Christmas lights on the tree in St Mary’s Square will be switched on on Thursday 26 November. The evening will start at 5.30 pm with the St Mary’s Bell Ringers followed by a service of carols and readings in the Church. One Voice Watford and Berry Grove School choirs will be joining us and there will be refreshments. The Council have also arranged for street entertainment and food stalls from 3.30pm. Some thing for all!

Alpha Day Away – Saturday, 7 November

This year’s convention will be on Saturday 3 October at ExCel in London’s Docklands. The theme is “Unashamed” and the day will be spent reflecting on the gospel and its power to transform lives. Please sign the list in the church centre if you wish to go (cost £30) or see Sarah Phillips for further details.

Tomomi Piano Recital

‘Tomo’ as he is more affectionately known, graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music with Honours and is currently extending his studies with the eminent Benjamin Kaplan.
He brings us a programme ranging from Schubert, Haydn to Mendelsohn.

Combined choirs from Watford churches, together with occasional voices, are performing THE CREATION by Haydn on Saturday, 15 November at 4pm at St. Andrew’s Church, Church Road.  There will be a retiring collection and light refreshments after the performance.

This term’s Breakfast is being run by Chris Carter and Barry Moore. It will be in the church center and the theme will be ‘policing’ with Barry’s brother, a local community police officer.

The meeting will be entitled “How do we deal with difficult parts of Scripture?” and we have two excellent speakers; Marcus Jones and David Phillips. They will each talk for about 10 minutes and then we will open up to the floor for questions, comments and discussion.

Thirteen year old Cassandra has already been introduced to audiences of St Mary’s through joint performances in previous recitals.  She is now taking a step forward with a solo performance spanning from Mozart’s
sonata in D major KV576, Brahms Capriccio in F sharp minor, Brahms Rhapsody in G minor, Beethoven sonata Pathetique and a selection of Chopin etudes from Op10 and 25.
